First day of 2nd grade at M.I.T.C.H.

YAY!  We are all very excited for Ethan to be starting at M.I.T.C.H. today.  This second half of 2nd grade is going to be awesome!  Since the school is in Tualatin, which is at least 30 minutes away in good traffic, and drop off starts at 7:30am for 7:45 start time, Jeff and Ethan have to leave about 6:45am, so unfortunately we have to get Ethan up and going at 6am.  Since I don't start work until 9 on school days I am able to get him up and ready while Jeff is getting ready, which worked out pretty well this week.  They do have uniforms but are very flexible with them, meaning they can wear any color polo shirt and either black, blue or tan pants, but no jeans except on Friday field trip days.  He also has P.E. twice a week and they have them wear their P.E. clothes to school for the day, which is a Navy blue t-shirt with their logo and Navy blue workout shorts or sweat pants.

School is Monday-Thursday with Fridays off except for the third Friday of the month when they have a field trip of some sort.  I then pick up Ethan from school, as I get off work at 2pm and school gets out at 3:15.  As Fridays are my 10hr work days, Jeff is dropping Ethan off at a sitter by the house for 3 of the 4 Fridays and he will take the Friday off on the Field Trip days.

Already this week I have been so impressed with the school and his teacher, Mrs. Turner.  She has a newsletter that she posts on the school website that tells the parents about the homework for the week.  She also has sent a few different emails with helpful information.  Lastly, he has homework that is actually challenging him, which is great to see.  He has 2 sheets of math problems that include geometry, multiplication, time and measurements as well as a sheet of addition or subtraction, and then also has spelling words that he has to write sentences with.  Such a massive improvement from the last school.  He also was very excited to get to go to art class and computer class.  I believe he is going to have a much better second half of the year.

New Years Day! GO DUCKS!

Since it was just the 3 of us celebrating Christmas/New Years this time it was pretty quiet and very relaxing.  We took advantage of our quiet time with some family games, movies, cleaning us the decorations from Christmas and then cheered on the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl.  The Ducks dominated the game 59-20 over Florida State University.  They are now onto the first-ever College Championship game, which will be held on Monday, January 12 in Texas against the Ohio State Buckeyes.  GO DUCKS!
